1 John 2:6 ~
Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
Have you ever played a game of copycat? You sit across from a person and imitate the exact mirror image of whatever they do. You have to pay close attention, because if you don’t follow in tandem with the other person, you’ll lose the game. There’s a dependency to follow the other player. When Jesus discipled His twelve friends, He was showing them how to act, think, and behave in ways that honored God and created opportunities to spread the gospel. Jesus created a sense of dependency, so His disciples would learn how to imitate His ways. 1 John 2:6 teaches us that we should abide in Christ by walking in the same manner that Jesus walked. As you go about your day, do people see the likeness of Jesus in your life? Abiding is an active command. It means to act in accordance with someone or something — to walk in unity, rooted in obedience. When we abide in Christ, we imitate Him. It creates within us a sense of urgency and dependency that can only be satisfied by the love of God. You can be confident that God desires for you to walk in His ways. If you remain close to Him, abiding in Him, you will become more like Jesus. Pray, asking God to help you model the teachings and likeness of Christ so you can abide with Him as you worship.
