Proverbs 23:26 ~
My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways.
Everyone craves control. From the moment we are born, we understand the concept of “MINE!” Some people search their whole lives to find a group of people, a hobby, or possessions that they can control. There always seems to be some source of power just out of reach that we long for, pine after, or investigate. This idea is not new. In the Garden of Eden, the snake was able to convince Eve that control was in her grasp. All it took was one tiny act of disobedience. Harmless, right? Hardly. See, God gave us freewill because He loves us, but we shouldn’t abuse the gift of freewill just because we have access to it. Proverbs 23:26 is a wise warning to turn your attention away from evil things and surrender your heart to the only One who will never let you down. God is in control because that’s what we need. We were not created to be our own masters, but to worship our Master, Creator, and Lord. Without surrendering our will to God, we cannot be close to Him. Pray, asking God to help you resist the need to control and invite God back on the throne of your heart, where He belongs.
